DARJEELING
It is a beautiful place well known for its Tea Gardens and scenic views. Darjeeling is a district of West Bengal situated at an elevation of about 2024 metres. Approx 11000 tons of tea is produced every year in Darjeeling in around 87 Estates. Such a small area for this huge production.
Darjeeling is popular for its interesting Architecture and soothing weather in all times. One can also walk in hills in this region and also enjoys great food choices available here.
1) Darjeeling Himalayan Railway
It is also known as Toy Train is the world famous train in Darjeeling. It connects various diverse communities and connects Siliguri with Darjeeling and hence listed as World Heritage Site.
Approx. Ticket cost of train is Rs. 800/- for non petrol (Diesel).
Approx. Ticket cost of train is Rs. 1400/- for Steam Engine Rides.
There are totally 18 rides of the train between Darjeeling and Ghum Route. While travelling, trains stop at different beautiful locations for the Tourists.
2) Himalayan Mountaineering Institute
This Institute was founded by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and established in 1954 in Darjeeling in order to encourage Mountaineering in India. This Institute is internationally famous for its reputation to trained thousands of students in Mountaineering activities. This institute offers various courses to develop skills in Mountain Climbing and interest of climbing in every student.3) Shrubbery Nightingale Park in Darjeeling
This park is one of the most famous and beautiful park in Darjeeling. The old name of Nightingale park is Shrubbery in the times of British Rule when it was the private Courtyard of Thomas Tartan’s Bungalow. At the distance of 10 km from the mall, this park offers the beautiful views of snow capped mountains and Kanchenjunga Range.People from different states / cities must visit the park when they travel Darjeeling. This park was closed for four years for renovation work and all and reopened in 2011. Lord Shiva’s Giant Statue makes the awesome scenery of the place. The great scenery and the musical fountain, soothing wind is just delights the soul.
The weather of the place lies between 13 to 23 degrees.
4) Singalila National Park
Most beautiful in Darjeeling at an elevation of approx. 2280. This park is famous for its Trekking. It establishes the trekking between Maney Bhanjyang to Sandakphu (a mountain peak in the border between India and Nepal). Firstly, it was declared Wildlife Sanctuary in 1986 and in 1992, it was made National Park.From Sikkim Durbar, the Singalila area was purchased by the British Indian Government in 1882. The area was reserved by British Government under Indian Forest Act 1878. After its declaration as Indian National Park in 1992, it was opened for general public.
It covers an area of approx. 79 sq. Km. at an elevation lies between approx. 2280 to 3980 metres.
5) Passenger Ropeway (Darjeeling Ropeway)
It is also called as Darjeeling Rangeet Valley Passenger Ropeway. Darjeeling Ropeway is also known as Darjeeling Rangeet valley Passenger Ropeway because peoples / travellers across India and the World can enjoys the scenic views while travelling the Ropeway around the river little Rangeet.The Ropeway was started in 1968 and its length is 5 km.
6) Dali Monastery
The full name of this Monastery is Druk Thupten Sangag Choling Monastery. This place contains records, paintings and various Buddhism Murals. One can easily finds all the answers to their questions from this place. This Monastery is open for all in all days of the week.At a distance of 3 km. from Darjeeling main Town, this Monastery is most famous as Dali Monastery. Tibetan Style Architecture is clearly shown while watching the Monastery from close. The white colour of the Monastery gives an awesome look.
The Monastery is build by Kyabje Thuksey Rinpoche, a well known religious Teacher in 1971.
This place is all filled with large Golden Cylindrical drums. The monks while offering prayers sits near these drums.
There is also a school inside the Monastery. One can see the students in their uniform and bags around the place.
There is also a cafe on the right side. Name of the cafe is Kunga Paljor Coffee Shop.
